Royal Holloway awarded Silver rating in Teaching Excellence Framework

  • Date28 September 2023

Royal Holloway has been awarded Silver in the Office for Students (OfS) Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) assessment.

TEF Silver 2023

TEF is a national scheme run by the OfS to assess the quality of learning and teaching in English universities and helps inform students’ choices about what and where to study.

The TEF assessment reviews universities and colleges’ performance against a set of data informed Sector benchmarks which are supported by two narrative accounts, one prepared by the provider, the other by students at the institution.

The ratings, from Requires Improvement to Gold, reflect the extent to which a higher education provider meets or exceeds its anticipated outcomes for its mix of undergraduate students and across the range of its undergraduate courses and subjects.

Silver is awarded to those universities that provide very high-quality experiences and facilities that ensure all students are significantly challenged and supported in their studies.

The feedback from the TEF assessors included many highlights, including the relationship between our research and research-informed teaching which has been ranked as outstanding.

Vice-Chancellor and Principal at Royal Holloway, Professor Julie Sanders, said: “We are delighted to have been awarded Silver by TEF; a testament to the hard work of everyone at the University. I would particularly like to thank colleagues who prepared our TEF submission which secured the confidence of assessors.

“We strive to deliver quality teaching, with supportive facilities for learning and wider development opportunities for our students and all within an engaging teaching environment, so to be recognised for very high quality in many aspects of our work is a hugely positive achievement and something we aim to build on.”

“Congratulations to all colleagues and the University community, not least our students, for their continued dedication in making Royal Holloway a University of excellence.”
