Research that underpins our impact case studies reflects Drama and Music’s shared commitment to social justice and democratic artistic citizenship. Each case study challenges inequalities, contests established historical narratives, and develops new and equitable ways to participate in the arts.
Innovating the staging and curation of difficult pasts in museums
Research in Drama inspired major museums in Poland and Argentina to develop new and inclusive ways of representing their collections and animating sensitive histories through theatre. This research inspired new collaborations between theatre-makers and museums; enhanced and diversified visitor experience; and generated new insights into how to use performance in museums to stage difficult pasts.
Enhancing lives through new approaches to participatory arts
Research in Drama and Music strengthened arts practices with disadvantaged populations in communities across the world. This research shaped new approaches to participatory arts, enhancing the lives of refugees, migrant children, and people living with dementia. Findings were widely disseminated, informing the work of leading cultural organisations, charities, artists, carers and teachers, evidenced in over 40 countries.
