NSTD recognises the GeoNetZero CDT

The UK Government has recently published the North Sea Transition Deal (NSTD) which lays the groundwork for the delivery of skills, innovation and infrastructure needed for the decarbonisation of the North Sea and other carbon-heavy industries in the UK.
The NSTD recognises the GeoNetZero CDT, which includes Royal Holloway amongst other university partners, as a key research centre and postgraduate training provider for the low-carbon energy transition in the UK.
The GeoNetZero CDT’s Academic Director, Professor John Underhill, who leads the programme at Heriot-Watt University said:

“I am absolutely delighted that the GeoNetZero CDT forms a key part of the UK Government's NSTD that was announced recently.

It is a testament to the merits of pan-UK collaboration across the sector and of which Royal Holloway is a valued partner.

The GeoNetZero CDT places environmental geoscience undertaken at the very heart of the effort to deliver the Energy Transition in general and the challenge to meet the UK's net zero emission targets in particular.

The announcement underlines the value the UK Government attaches to the GeoNetZero CDT's training and research effort and paves the way for additional support and funding for the programme.”
