I am a Language Tutor in German in the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures. My teaching focus is currently on German ab-initio year 1 and year 2 (for students without prior knowledge of the German language), and on oral classes for advanced students.

I also teach evening classes on the Languages for All programme. This programme is open to students and staff across the university and for interested members of the public.

For me, learning and practising the German language is also about gaining insights into cultures and histories of German-speaking areas and countries. Therefore, I try to incorporate cultural, societal, and historical topics in my language teaching as often as possible. I encourage students to engage with these issues as much as they can, also in an independent manner outside timetabled sessions.

Studying and learning in a self-reliant way is another aspect I am particularly interested in. It is an aspect of my teaching in which co-operation with students is paramount: the more sincerely they reflect on their most productive ways of learning, the more openly they share their knowledge and experience in this respect, the more they and their peers can progress in their study of German.
