Zubin Kanga

Zubin is a leading innovator of new approaches to the piano, with recent work focusing on new interactions between live musicians and new technologies, including live electronics, AI, motion sensors, video-game controls, analogue synthesizers and 3D animation.

He has premiered more than 120 works and worked with many of the world’s leading composers, including Michael Finnissy, George Benjamin, Nicole Lizée, Liza Lim, and Beat Furrer. He has performed at international festivals including Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival (UK), Melbourne Festival (Australia), Festival Présences (France), Klang Festival (Denmark) and November Music (Netherlands). His collaboration with Alexander Schubert on an internet-based score, WIKI-PIANO.NET, has been performed in 21 cities across 7 countries, and has been covered by international media including The Times, WDR and the BBC World Service.

After graduating from the University of Sydney and the Royal Academy of Music, Zubin was a post-doctoral research researcher at the University of Nice/IRCAM, before joining Royal Holloway as a Leverhulme Early Career Fellow. His research focuses on new musician-technology interactions, collaborative creativity, sociology of contemporary music, and diversity issues within the industry.
