Leverhulme Early Career Fellowships at Royal Holloway, University of London

Leverhulme Early Career Fellowships at Royal Holloway, University of London

  • Date19 October 2019

The Music Department invites outline proposals from postdoctoral scholars interested in applying for a Leverhulme Early Career Fellowship hosted at Royal Holloway, University of London.

Our department offers a dynamic, inclusive and stimulating environment for research. Staff research covers a broad chronology (from early medieval to contemporary) and geography (spanning Europe, Asia and the Americas). Much of our work crosses traditional disciplinary boundaries, integrating perspectives from the fields of ethnomusicology, historical musicology, theory & analysis, composition, and performance studies, understood in the broadest terms. Please identify a possible departmental mentor from our list of staff, and please discuss your proposed application directly with that staff member.

We also encourage interdisciplinary projects that draw on the expertise of other Royal Holloway departments such as Drama and Media Arts, which together with Music form the School of Performing and Digital Arts.

Details of the Leverhulme scheme can be found here. Please pay attention to the eligibility criteria: applicants must hold either a degree from a UK higher education institution or a fixed-term academic position in the UK, and must have submitted their PhD thesis between 27 February 2016 and 27 February 2020 (except for individuals who have taken a career break).

We have an internal selection process for prospective candidates. If you are interested, please send to Stephen Rose (stephen.rose@rhul.ac.uk) by 5pm on Monday 11 November an outline proposal consisting of:

  • a one-page summary of the planned project, indicating research questions, research context, methods and outcomes;
  • a CV (maximum two pages);
  • a short statement (maximum one page) of how your project would intersect with research currently underway at Royal Holloway, specifying which departmental member(s) have given outline agreement to be your mentor.

Candidates who successfully proceed through all stages of the internal selection process will then be invited to submit a full Leverhulme application supported by Royal Holloway, for which the closing date is 27 February 2020.
