Tom Parkinson appointed as Lecturer in Composition

The Department of Music is delighted to announce the addition of Dr Tom Parkinson to its composition staff.

Tom Parkinson is a composer and sound designer working primarily in an interdisciplinary context. He has made the music for over eighty dance and theatre productions in twenty countries.

Recent productions include the musical, A Pacifist's Guide to the War on Cancer, with Bryony Kimmings, Brian Lobel and Complicite, which opened at the National Theatre before touring internationally; Ur by Sulayman Al Bassam, which opened at Residenz, Munich and the National Theatre of Tunisia; and Footnotes for Crippled Symmetry with Keren Levi, which toured Holland and Germany.

Tom is currently working on Voorlopers, a new dance production with Ivgi&Greben which premieres in Stadsschouwberg, Amsterdam in October 2019, and a new work with the scenographer Anne Marcq at the National Theatre of Belgium in December.

Current touring productions include I'm A Phoenix, Bitch, by Bryony Kimmings (given a five-star review by The Guardian), and Now is the Time to Say Nothing, by Caroline Williams and Reem Karssli (currently running at Battersea Arts Centre until 19th October).

Tom’s music is stylistically varied, incorporating acoustic and electronic elements and ranging from commercial music to experimental performance. His work has been played on BBC Radio 1, Radio 2, Radio 3, Radio 4, 6Music, and 1Xtra, as well as on Classic FM.
